The history of the China tablet according to Frank

April 28, 2013

I had an epiphany to explain the rhyme and reason behind China tablets and their place in the current technology race.

I will talk about ARM licensing and the relation between the 3-4 big chip makers (Samsung, Qualcomm, Nvidia, Texas Instruments) and the up-and-coming chip makers (Amlogic, Boxchip/Allwinner, Rockchip) and the designs of said SOC devices.

This is just a placeholder for a day or so until I can gather all my thoughts and put them on this blog without sounding like a complete babbling fool.

Don’t want to let the cat out of the bag yet but…..

We are super close to finalizing a deal with one of the up-and-coming manufacturers in China.  One that I know these idiots in the US will not be able to continue to copy my business model with(At least for awhile).  The logistics involved in working with this MFG is beyond harder than I thought it would be, but I’m impressed with one of their products so far as to take some time to figure out how to make this happen.

Some good news.  Allwinner has contacted me after sending them a few nice emails(Yes I really mean nice).  Hopefully they will give us the A31 sources so CT can start perfecting the aftermarket ROMs for the Spark.  Right now there is some action on the Slatedroid forums with some aftermarket choices for those people looking for custom ROMs for the Ainol Spark Firewire here:
http://www.slatedroid.com/forum/682-spark-firewire-firmware-development/

Be warned that some of them are Beta.  But they are working none the less.  Please make sure you read the FAQs and the information in the thread posts so you understand what you are getting yourself into.  The CM10 custom firmware ROM for the Spark is also compatible with the Onda V972, Onda V812 (V1-V4), Onda V812 (V5), Nextway F9X, Chuwi V99. Rom developers always need testers!!! It’s hard to test everything.  So give your feedback.  It’s very hard to brick a tablet unless you do something really stupid like flash an incorrect bootloader.  So be adventurous and try the ROMs out.  You might like them.

And…if you are downloading Christian Troy’s ROMs on a regular basis, it would be awesome if you could donate just a few bucks here or there so he can be compensated for keeping them updated.  I have personally gave him $1000s of dollars and supplied $1000s more in equipment to help these projects along.  There is only so much I can do.  I had even confronted one of the guys who blatantly copies CT’s ROMs and sells them as such on his website/ebay page and asked this d-bag for compensation for CT and he basically told me to pound salt.

I know for every 1 jerk that out there(Guy who takes the rom and sells it on tablets without CT permission), there’s another 99 good persons to counter them.  So help the guy out. Times are hard all over the world and this guy puts a lot of it in to maintain what now seems like 15 different tablets.  And that number is going to grow now that we are getting into the A31, RK3188, and soon to be quad-core Amlogic.
